Fleece-Backed Systems: Tough, Durable, Reliable
Over the years, fleece-backed membrane systems have been used due to their superior performance. The combination of severe annual storms, and the desire to have a roofing system that does not include VOCs during installation, makes a fleece-backed system an ideal choice for building owners; especially for occupied buildings.
Selecting a fleece-backed membrane will provide any building owner an enhanced system that offers greater puncture, tear, and hail resistance when compared to traditional roofing options. Any TPO, PVC, or KEE HP membrane that is enhanced with a fleece backing reinforcement increases the overall thickness, while creating a tough, durable, and versatile sheet that is ideal for all re-roofing or new construction projects. When adhered with an insulating and no-VOC flexible urethane adhesive, fleece-backed systems offer additional hail and accidental puncture warranties that give peace of mind to the building owner.
When comparing puncture resistance of fleece-backed membranes to mod-bit options, the ASTM D5635 Dynamic Puncture Test shows that fleece-backed membranes are far superior, with up to 30 joules of force compared to a max of 10 joules for mod-bit options. The Federal 101C Static Puncture Test shows results with over 350lbf for fleece-backed membranes, while mod-bit options maxed out below 250lbf.
When combined with Versico’s Flexible DASH Adhesive, VersiFleece membranes have been thoroughly tested and results show an additional 33-50% increase in puncture resistance when compared to traditional single-ply systems. The same VersiFleece assembly will pass FM’s VSH (Very Severe Hail) Test using a 2” ice ball that is fired at 160ft/sec, with an impact energy of 58 ft-lb (79 J).
