Versico’s Product Alternatives and Solutions: TPO Detail Edition

As supply challenges continue to affect many industries, including roofing, having product alternatives and solutions can be critical to complete a roofing project. In this blog post, we are going to provide alternative solutions for two popular TPO details: Edge flashing using TPO Pressure-Sensitive Coverstrip and penetration flashing using a pourable sealer pocket.

TPO Pressure-Sensitive (PS) Coverstrip is a popular choice for flashing edge details such as a drip edge, gravel stop, or gutter. However, there are several ways to secure and flash the roof edge on TPO. Here are some alternative details to consider:

• TPO coated metal drip edge or gravel stop: TPO coated metal is a robust replacement. The TPO field sheet can be welded directly to the flange of the coated metal (detail TPC-1.2).
• An alternative to this detail would be to run the field sheet over the edge and fasten it off. Install the TPO coated metal edge profile over it, then strip-in the coated metal flange with TPO reinforced flashing; heat welding the flashing to the coated metal and the field sheet.
• At edges that require a gutter detail the TPC-1.3 detail is another way to utilize other products. A gutter profile is fastened to the wood nailer located on the edge of the roof. The TPO field membrane is extended out and over into the gutter. A metal term bar is then placed over the TPO membrane and fasteners hold the term bar in place.
• VersiTrim 2000 &3000 - Detail TPC-1.6 is a quick and easy detail to use if a drip edge is not required. After the field membrane is out and over the edge of the roof, the snap-on edge metal is installed; requiring only an anchor bar, water cutoff mastic, and snap-on facia cover.

One-Part Pourable Sealer and penetration pockets are used to provide a seal around hard-to-flash penetrations. Consider the following alternative options for sealant pocket installations:

• Field wraps made out of TPO non-reinforced flashing or White EPDM Peel & Stick Uncured Flashing
• Prefabricated accessories made from reinforced membrane. Also consider custom order prefabricated accessories using reinforced membrane and non-reinforced flashing
• LIQUISEAL liquid flashing can add complexity but is also a viable alternative, especially on oddly shaped penetrations.
